4G in the UK

This morning the Everything Everywhere (or EE, as of the announcement) unveiled its 4G network which is being rolled out over the next few weeks, bringing high-speed mobile internet to the UK. Everything Everywhere, will be bringing 4G LTE to 16 British cities in time for Christmas, with London, Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham being switched on today (albeit just for testing).
The devices that will be unleashed with the blazing-fast LTE technology are the Samsung Galaxy SIII LTE, the new Nokia Lumia 920, the Nokia Lumia 820, the HTC One XL and the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE. Unsurprisingly no mention of any Apple devices but with the Apple media event happening tomorrow we won’t have long to wait to see whether the new iPhone will be compatible with EE’s 4G network.
The move will rival other fibre broadband providers in the UK as the scramble to move people over to higher speed connections continue. Whether or not EE can handle running its mobile service, whilst simultaneously starting a foray into the world of home broadband, is something we’ll see over the coming months.
